With a musical catalogue spanning nearly five decades, Fleetwood Mac has definitely stood the test of time.

Fleetwood Mac’s recent stint in Austin has come and gone, and being such a huge fan, I can’t believe I missed it. But at least I can say I’ve seen the band five different times in four different incarnations in three different decades. Geez, I didn’t realize how young I was.

The first time I saw the Mac was in 1980 at the Convention Center and tickets were only $12.50 for first balcony. These days even the view from nosebleed can sometimes cost as much as my mortgage.

But whatever the price it’s well worth it. How many bands can share Fleetwood Mac’s longevity and artistic excellence? Rumours still remains one of the biggest-selling albums of all time and my personal favorite.  In fact the first song I heard on the radio was “You Make Loving Fun” in late 1977 on 55 AM KTSA. It was also the first 45 I ever bought. How many actually care to remember both KTSA and 45’s? Damn, I’m much younger than I thought I was.

With a musical catalogue spanning nearly five decades, Fleetwood Mac has definitely stood the test of time. Despite numerous personnel changes and various solo outings, the definitive lineup will always be Mick, John, Lindsey, Stevie and Christine, who after 16 years, came out of retirement. I’m so glad she did because they sure do make listening to music fun.
